Is Alpha for me?
Guests attend for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples' beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. The Alpha course is about designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers, although anyone is welcome! Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. This course is mainly for residents of the "5 parishes" of Elvington, Sutton-on-Derwent, Wheldrake, East Cottingwith and Thorganby. The course is free of charge. You are welcome to try the first evening and then decide if you want to continue.
What happens on the course?
The evening starts at 7:15pm. The first thing that happens is that we will have the chance to get to know each other over a meal. After food, we will watch a short video about the topic of the week. Then there is a time for discussion where everyone can talk about the topic and the issues it raises. The evening finishes about 10pm.
